I feel kind of sad for Kev today - you could see how much of himself he had invested in his role... but so glad that a really impressive communicator and incredibly hard worker (who just happens to be a woman) is replacing him (I saw a repeat of her Press Club address in the wee hours around a month ago - just amazingly good.
Would've been nicer if she was voted in by us but still an historical moment. I don't think that she did anything underhanded as some people have suggested & I have been a fan of some (not all)of her work but I'm still undecided about whether it was the right way to go. We'll see after the election. Oh politics...... poor Rudd. He mut be soooooooooooo p*#sed!
Wow. I learnt it first from YOU and had to go look at a news site. Who'd have thunk? USA has a black president and we have a female! I really hope she can stay there! I do feel sorry for Kevy though. Hes done what he thought best and he was so good in the start. Mind you, it didnt help that he had to clean up all the S*** left behind by Howard...no I say no more.
I agree, Congratulations to Julia Gillard, It's nice to see a woman up their for a change, i know many are not happy about this but i think women should have equal rights and not stopped from doing something due to gender.
Technically it shouldn't matter re: gender and all that, Vic. It's about policy yeah. But I think this IS very significant because she is the very first woman in the position- geez, a job I wouldn't want. Good luck to her I say.
Congrats Aus! Hope she's no Margaret Thatcher... shudder! Look forward to seeing what she does... like putting more jobs on the Occupations in Demand list ;) pleeeeaaase can project planners go on it, please, I really do want to live in Aus, I do! ;D
hear hear Cath. And a great photo too.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS Austrailia...
ReplyDeletehere's to the years ahead!
HUGS
Char
First Female Prime Minister. What a great day (regardless of what you might think of her). !!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGod... it's been all of 2 minutes & I am sick of her already.
ReplyDeleteDoes it REALLY matter that she's a woman, and if so, WHY?
I don't think it should be about gender, it should be about POLICY.
Plus she annoys me. Not that I was ever a fan of Krudd, but atleast he was elected by the people...
Just sayin.
;)
Forget the 'news' - I read this historical news on your blog, Cath.
ReplyDeleteYou are history in the making!!
AND she's a red-head!!
ReplyDeleteHooray for that!

ReplyDeleteIt's still sinking in for me. Gobsmacking news and a tanty throwing toddler have been a bit much for me today.

ReplyDeleteShe could only do a better job, although if policies don't change then what is the point.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to her either way.
What a brilliant picture! Here's cheers..
ReplyDeleteLove that picture of Julia - fabulous! I think she is going to be a perfect opponent for Abbott when the elections come around later this year!
ReplyDeleteExciting times!
Yes, I too posted about her today and said the same - here's hoping she represents us well. What a defining day in history!
