Full of exciting projects, 101 of them to be precise, and so many great ideas for gifts - perfect for Christmas presents and everything from 1 metre of fabric- so you can potentially make someone a gift for under $10! I have already seen quite of a few things I can make and give to people- like the staff at Busy's preschool, I cannot wait to get stuck into this! It has some really gorgeous children's clothes and some great storage type things. All the patterns are in an envelope in the front - I will never be able to neatly fold those pattern sheets back the way they were when it first arrived (its a bit like a massive street map, I saw you Chef, mocking me as I battled to fold it up again)
And you know it just gets better:
I have THREE copies to giveaway to people who follow this blog.- so if you have been lurking around now is your chance to come and say hello!!
All you have to do is leave a comment and answer the question:
The best hand made gift I have ever made for someone is:
The giveaway closes on Tuesday 9th November, 2010 at 8pm
I'm a follower! Best handmade gift .. softies for kids that lost theirs in the Victorian bushfires
ReplyDeleteI would love one of those books!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower. Best handmade gift: Knitted sweater with hood (first ever made!) for my boyfriend at that time.
:)
Have been following for ages! Best homemade present was a cross stitch I did for my mum, on green linen of a little field mouse holding on to wheat turfts blowing in the wind. I did it whilst we were living in London and had it professionally framed when we got back to Tassie. She loves it and it's on her bedroom wall, right next to the door so she sees it every day!!
ReplyDeleteI have been having a break from cross stitch but I have amassed an amazing collection of patterns that I can't part with and maybe I'll go back to it?
I'm a follower :)
ReplyDeleteThe best hand made gift I have ever made for someone is: The bright sunny yellow hat and mittens I made my elder daughter - you could see exactly where she was, and if she dropped them in the playground they were easy to spot!
It was a cross stitch picture of a chicken for my mum. I got it framed here in Perth and then had to lug it all the way to NZ to give to her LOL
ReplyDeleteOoo, I had the pleasure of dealing with Tina from Penguin in my day job from time to time, and she is lovely!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love books that are spiral bound? So good for crafting on the go!
The best hand made gift I made was the doll I made for my daughter's first birthday.
ReplyDeleteOMG - I *SO* hope I win this one. I've been resisting the urge to buy so I have my fingers, legs and toes crossed!
(... if not I'll be off to buy now that you've said it is as good as I thought it might be!)
My best handmade gift ever was a quilt I sewed for Ivy's second birthday using lots of fabric from her great-grandmothers stash.
ReplyDeleteThat sewing book looks excellent. Happy Tuesday to you. xx
I'm a follower, I love coming over to read your blog. That book looks amazing, thanks for offering it up for the giveaway. :)
ReplyDeleteThe best handmade gift I have made was two pairs of baby booties and a toy bunny rabbit out of vintage doilies and sheets. I was very proud to give them, and they were received with such pleasure that it made it doubly satisfying.
I think my best gift is the one I just finished making for my man... because it's all recycled and giving new life to something special to him, because I can imagine him using it when he and our girl go off to the library or to have a babycino, and because it's not for a birthday or any significant event, it's "just because". Thanks for another amazing giveaway, Cath!
ReplyDeleteWOW! how lovely of you :) Best handmade gift I made would have to be a little pink patchwor quilt I made for my daughter. It isnt perfect but it has been well loved for 3 years now.
ReplyDeleteAaah, best handmade gift - this one...
ReplyDeletehttp://umatji.blogspot.com/2010/01/i-crafted-with-love-and-just-smidge-of.html
I loved making the car wrap and finding old bits and pieces to make it but there was some stress involved - totally didn't think it through clearly - hence the pattern book appealing SOOO much!
This sounds like MYYY book. If I am buying fabric - oh and yes i do... - i will buy 1 metre... and then either cut it or curse and spit there isn't more!
ReplyDeleteHave followed you for some time chunky and am north-coast born and bred if local blood counts...
My best handmade was and still is lemon butter. Love making it, love gifting it, love EATING it!
I love a good craft book! I have one yard wonders, but I have plenty of friends that I could share this one with if I one.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say that the best handmade gift I ever made was my very first flower brooch for Tinniegirl, way back here: http://curlypops.blogspot.com/2009/05/all-can-be-revealed.html
It was the beginning of lots and lots and lots of flower brooches!
The best handmade gift i ever made for someone was the one I gave my best friend yesterday.....many moons ago back in the dark ages of the late nineties, she and I and my boyfriend (now husband) travelled around europe and morocco together and kept an extremely hilarious (well only to us!) travel diary which made its way into our home. I copied and bound it (sort of)and presented it to her yesterday.......reliving our carefree youth, priceless.
ReplyDeleteMel x
The pin cushion I sent YOU silly!! xx
ReplyDeleteI've been following for a wee while now and would LOVE to win this, so I'm going to say the quilt I just finished a couple weeks ago for my boy. The look on his face was wonderful when he saw the dragon and sword!
ReplyDeleteThe best things I've ever made are the quilts I've made for my kids. Full of family photos and lots of love!
ReplyDeleteHello! The best handmade gift I've ever done was a set of clothes for my brother's Action Man, which included a hood, coat, trousers with "chains"... LOL
ReplyDeleteI used to make little books and cartoony pictures for my family... we still have them and I've been looking at them a lot the past few days, so I think those!
ReplyDeleteWell, I would have said it was the quilt I made for my brother and his bride- hand pieced, hand stitched, I was pretty proud of it. Then I stood next to the brides best friend and the reception who went on and on about her dodgy sister who insisted on giving handmade gifts and how much it annoyed her- then she said "what did you give them? (the newlyweds)"..."ahhh, ummm, a quilt I made!". That may be slightly underappeciated. The 'super grandma' and 'super pop' series of comics and action figures (with heads made out of Christmas bauble decorations) were certainly not underappreciated by my grandparents as a youngster though- at least, they seemed thankful and to think I was a creative genius!
ReplyDeleteNew Follower :)
ReplyDeleteBest handmade gift ever given.... handmade tote bag covered in handprints of my babes for their grandmamas for mothers day! Very well received :)
Hi - I am a new follower. The best gift I have every made was a log cabin quilt for my mom in law.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway!
butler83ataoldotcom
The best handmade gift I have ever made for some one was a huge log cabin cot quilt with matching house nappy stacker and I didn't even get a thankyou. So sad because I loved it and have never had the time to make one like it for myself. Cherrie
ReplyDeleteThis book looks wonderful. 101 projects would keep me going for a very long time, would love to win it.
ReplyDeleteThe best hadmade gift I gave was a quilt for my little boy. Not really quilted properly and full of mistakes but is still very much loved anyway.
Thanks for the chance to win, Kerrie.
I've been a follower since your early days, haven't we all?? The best present I ever made was a treacherously difficult messenger bag, for The Sister Of My Heart, which I loved so desperately that I wanted to keep it - mine, all mine - but somehow with great willpower and a phenomenal exertion of effort I managed to tear myself away from it at the post office knowing she would love it more ... here is a link so you can see it!

Ooh, such a lovely book!
ReplyDeleteBest gift...a large bear and elephant (very tricky piecing) made from a friend's grandmother's blanket and hankies. My friend was extremely close with her grandmother and had this lovely soft blanket that held many memories and stories. When my friend became pregnant she was feeling so sad that her grandmother had passed before she could meet the baby. She was telling me stories of her grandmother, how she loved bears and elephants. As I made the softies I kept thinking about their special relationship, how the blanket was so soft and loved and now was going to be made into something new with the spirit of her grandmother in them. I used some of her grandmothers hankies in them too. They were made with great care and love and I really enjoyed the process. They were presents for her baby, so he could snuggle with great grandma's blanket and feel her love as well.
I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThe best handmade gift I have ever given away was a gift for my cousin. Our Grandmother had recently passed away, and she was like a Mother to my cousin. I made her a wooden decoupage plaque with a picture of my Grandmother, a few crocheted snowflakes that Granny had made & then I used a card she had given me signed, 'Love, Granny' and I enlarged the signature for the plaque, then painted it on. It looked as if she had signed it herself.
I would love to win this book! I have wanted it for quite some time.
Thank you VERY much!!!
I found you through a link on facebook and now am a follower :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite gift to make and give is dresses for my neice. I have 2 boys so it's nice to make girly things for her :)
I am a follower, have been for along time! The book is has such amazing and simple projects.
ReplyDeleteThe best gift I have made would be a wooden garden stake for my dear mother, she loves her garden and I remember as a child tagging along side helping her in the garden.
When creating the garden stake I prayed over it as I created it with my hands, I prayed that the good Lord will continue to guide her journey her on earth and that she would Let her light shine for Jesus daily and remember as she plants the seeds in her garden, God helps her to also plant seeds of faith, hope, love, kindness and courage.
hi there...i have just discovered your blog and just started one of my own. I am grandmothering today and will stop by again later.
ReplyDeleteI am 65 so have a long history of favourite handmades/giveaways.
I will choose a Barrington Bear baby quilt I made for my only niece 30 yrs ago...why this one out of so many? when she became a mother last year...she used it for her own baby my grand niece ..love it!!
I'm a follower :)
ReplyDeleteMy most popular handmade gift has been knitted/felted slippers. I almost can't give anything else any more, because people are disappointed. "What, it's not slippers??! I was looking forward to new ones. My old ones have holes." So, slippers it is!!
Hey, Cath---the best handmade gift I've made for someone is the John Wayne decoupaged table I blogged about last month. It gets used (and admired!) daily...
ReplyDeleteI'm a very unskilled crafter, but for everyone at work one year I made little felt badges that were about what they liked - a mouse one for the girl who loved mouse-things, a flower for the gardener, a tree for the earthy girl. I think I have just prompted myself to make a few more badges today, especially as I have nothing else to match my orange nail polish. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Cath,
ReplyDeleteI love your creations! I think the best handmade gifts I've made have been some of the softies I've dropped as part of the Toy Society. I like them because they evolve into their own little characters as I make them, and then they go out into the world and I don't always know where they end up. I dropped some in Germany, France and Italy last year; others have waited for their new homes in Tasmania and New Zealand, and next week some will start their new lives in Brisbane.
Thank you for your lovely blog and the chance to win this book!
Yay - what a cool giveaway. My best handmade gift would probably be one of my softies. xoxox
ReplyDeleteNew follower! I made a red Bendigo woollen jumper in 8 ply for my boyfriend when I should have been studying at uni. He wore it about once. He is now my husband of 15 years.
ReplyDeleteI am a happy follower! The best hand made gift I have made is beautiful smelling soap .. scented with sticky date pudding essence. It smelt of baked goodness and cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of last month, I made my cousin a felted pencil roll. I creative machine embroidered swirls and hearts on it. It rolls up and ties with ribbon and cute little button. I made this for her to show my generosity for housing me in Melb for the last 3 months.
ReplyDeleteI made chocolates for everyone in my office when I was about 19. Then I made small boxes, each with lids out of corrugated cardboard and tied them up with ribbon.
ReplyDeleteIt took me an entire Saturday but I'm still proud of my efforts!
Brenda at Mira Narnie made The Badoo a sweet sunrise to thank me for helping her with her blog. It was completely unexpected and I fell in love with Brenda's kindness on the spot. x
ReplyDeleteThe best hand crafted thing I ever made for someone was actually for my daughters funeral (sad I know :() But it was my first real 'go' at crafting since I was a kid and something I would hold onto for many years. So in essence it was something I made for myself...
ReplyDeleteAnyway it was a handmade guest sign in book for the people who attended her funeral. I spent a lot of time choosing the right papers, printing up the lined sheets, paying as much attention to detail as I could knowing this would be one of the few things I could 'make' for my child. Anyway that is something that is very special to me.
Sorry if this is a bit of a downer post.
nothing like a giveaway to bring out the lurkers:) my best handmade gift was the quilt i made my 8 year old daughter-with her encouragement. i had never made a quilt and she requested i make hers even if it wasn't as good as aunty karlys-who had made the oher childrens quilts! 'you can do it, just try your best mummy it doesn't have to be perfect'. and so it is perfectly imperfect and very much loved.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that book is on my christmas list. The best handmade gift? Probably the doll I made for my niece when she was about 8. All she wanted for her birthday was a doll. So what did my sister buy for her? A tent. Apparently 8 year olds are too old for dolls! She was heart broken. So I went straight home to my sewing machine and started making her a doll. It was by no means perfect, and her hair was kind of crooked, but my niece didn't care. She loved that doll that looked like Jemima from play school. And she loved me all the more for giving it to her.
ReplyDeleteA knitted triceratops for my son. He still loves it 6 years on. Thanks again Cath, I love your giveaways!!
ReplyDeleteI'm following.
ReplyDeleteI always try to craft something for my loved ones. If I don't people start ask if something happend? :)) my Flickr album is full of handmade gifts, but I think so far it is a coffee coaster for my sister (there is a link for curious guys- http://www.flickr.com/photos/cutiegoodie/3123758154/in/set-72157602207524150/
Prayer shawls for people need of some comfort. I never know who gets them, I just really like the idea of providing something warm and comforting to be wrapped around someone who needs it, for whatever reason.

gosh that DOES look like an amazing book :D
ReplyDeleteI love you softies! Looking at you projects has inspired me to try and make some for my niece this Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing I ever made was a knit hat for my Dad, who doesn't care for crafting at all, but tells everyone that I made a hat that keeps his ears warmer than any other hat he owns.
most gifts i make are handmade. most people seem to appreciate the time and thought, but i'm sure some just think i'm a tight arse!
ReplyDeletelately (when the baby permits) i've been whipping up funky badges form crochet flowers, yoyos and vintage buttons.
i'm keen for some fresh ideas !
