The Muppet Movie.

"Its time to play the music , it 's time to light the lights, its time to meet the Muppets...." do you remember hearing it on the TV and running to the (small rounded possibly black and white only  screen- as their was only one) wondering who the very special guest star would be?? I remember being particulary excited when it was Liberance. I can remember so clearly. I loved it! We all did.

So I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was to go and see The Muppet Movie. Like lay- awake- the- night -before-excited.

When I first saw the trailer I was overwhelmed by the sense of nostalgia I felt at seeing The Muppets again. It was like seeing my very best childhood friends. Seeing Fozzie and Kermit and Miss Piggy and Gonzo again was too much for me clearly as I cried. Cried! Can you believe it?! I really did. I cried at The Muppet Movie trailer.

Busy and I were lucky enough to get tickets to an advanced screening  of the new movie last Saturday. I think it comes out  on the 12th January in Australia. After I showed Busy the trailer  she was also excited. ( or perhaps she just started saying she was as I kept asking her in a leading the witness kind of way if she was soooooo excited to go and see The Muppets)

Verdict: Fantastically cheesy. Just as you expect it to be lovely and warm and full of puns, I laughed out loud more than a few times and their are some great songs- one in particular called Life's a Happy Song  ( you can download it on i-Tunes and I DARE you to NOT get up and dance when you hear it) that stay with you. Yes Kermit sings that song and I cried again.

The cinema was filled with kids of course and their nostalgic parents and everyone left with a big smile. But the best bit? At the end of the movie when they played Life's a Happy Song again all the kids got up and started dancing. And yes I cried AGAIN!

You can watch the trailer here

  2. Don't forget the "it's time to get it started - why don't you get it started - for the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, muppet-tational??? this is what we call the muppet show....". My kids are totally clueless as to who the muppets actually are (along with the wombles, paddington, Worzel gummage etc) What has happened to good ole kid TV?

  4. Oh, so glad to hear that it's really good! I bought some Muppet Show DVDs about a year ago and my kids have really loved them. The pure silliness has stood the test of time. We're all hanging out for this movie!

  9. I was a Muppet Babies fan, you know, the cartoon? The Muppets I saw a little bit but I think it was too old for me. BIG Fraggle Rock fan though, will be seeing THAT movie, although I hope I don't cry at the trailer! ;)

  10. Oh, I am really looking forward to this! I remember going to the drive in to see this movie as a family when I was a kid, and I remember how every year after school musical, we'd end up around a piano singing rainbow connection... and.... I am not even going to look at that trailer until a day or two before I go, otherwise I will drive the house crazy!! thanks Cath, got a huge smile just thinking about it! xo

  11. Yep - I saw the trailer and had great big fashbacks to the can't-sleep-too-excited night before I saw the original Muppet Movie when I was a kid. Loved the Ma-na-na-na reference. I think I have to convince the kidlet to go see it with me.

  12. It is good to have a good report on it. I saw the trailer today and wondered if it was going to be worthwhile to see, but given your verdict, I will be there next week with my kidlets.

  13. ... and then I broke my self-imposed rule and had the whole family watching trailers, you tube videos and earnestly discussing favourite Muppets... and a little girl took an extra hour to go to sleep... I think we need to bring our movie going plans forward (we were going to wait till next week)!! Hope you are having a lovely week, Cath xo

  14. Saw it on Friday with the kids (and 2 ring-ins). LOVED it much more than I expected to. I always loved the Muppets and anything remotely Henson related but wasn't sure I'd still love the cheese-factor. I DID and especially loved all the fabulous cameos.

PS I've been chatting about you lately. (Have your ears been burning?)
Just found out some friends of mine who have been traveling around Australia campervan-style all last year have bought some land in Bellingen and will be moving there in May. Much excitement!
