Another Craft Book Giveaway!!!

I have been waiting for this book to come out. Before I even knew it was coming I thought it would be so good if there was a book about what to do with your children's art as I had seen some great ideas on other peoples blogs. Then what should arrive in my letterbox but this book! Little Artist Handmade by Carly Schwerdt, who many of you will know as part of the fabric dynamic duo that is Umbrella Prints. Carly wrote this book and I tell ya' it is fabulous!!!  Gorgeous photos and beautifully laid out.

It starts off with some great information about art theory, about children and drawing and colour principles and then it has lots of step by step project ideas.  It has given me  hundreds of ideas of things to do with Busy's pictures.

I immediately wanted to make something from the book. Busy drew a fairy ( note the wings!!)  and we made it into a toy. She is thrilled to bits with it and I am too. I love the way kids draw people- everyone has huge heads and long legs!

You can have a look inside the book here. The book will be in the shops from Monday 30th May.
And guess what?  I have THREE copies to give away. SORRY to anyone overseas I feel bad that you always miss out (so I have something planned for you all later) but this giveaway is only for Australian residents.
To enter please: ( PLEASE READ CAREFULLY)
1. be a follower of this blog if you aren't already
2. Tell me what art a little person has made for you that you really loved.
entries will be open until FRIDAY 3rd June at midnight.
Good luck!!

  1. Now that looks like a fantastic book - I will have to go out and buy a copy methinks.
For Mothers Day my two little crafty girls decorated a gift box (it obviously wasn't jazzy enough on its own) with oodles of little scraps of fabric out of my scrap bucket. Very appropriate. And there was presents inside as well. Perfect!

  2. Oh lucky me to go first!

Well I have a sugar container made by my second boy a few years and a tile he painted and sealed for me which I use for hot dishs.

My youngest (almost two) has done some drawings of colourfull lines which hangs proudly in our bedroom!

I have a Seby (hearts) Mummy poster at my desk from the eldest - now that is the one that touches me the most. He has aspergers and he does not express or understand emotional express - so when he did this my heart BURSTED!!!

  5. I too have also wanted this book ever since I saw it on Carly's blog. It's on my "want" list. I have lots and lots of fav items but my most favourite at the moment is the beaut portrait my 6yo drew of me for mother's day. She thinks I'm beautiful, bless her little cotton socks

  6. I love the paintings my kids do for me the most. But you can never go past a silver painted macaroni Christmas decoration for a fabulous keepsake I find.

  7. Oh I'm in. My baby girl is still so little that I haven't gotten anything from her. But when I finished working at a kindy all the children decorated a little glass jar where I can put a candle. It had all of their fingerprints and it looks amazing with the candle inside.

  8. My 7yo nephew (who is now 15) painted a big emu at primary school, I loved it so much, a kitchen cupboard was designed to showcase it (and still does!).

  9. I had some students a few years ago that drew my name on tiny pieces of paper and decorated each post stamp name with texta designs. Stripes, checks, dots in all colours of the rainbow. They then stuck each tiny coloured name together in a patchwork of paper. It measures about a 10cm irregular shape and must contain 50 or so variations of my name. I still have it and have it stuck up on my wall. Very special.

  11. Oh my goodness - what a great looking book by a very clever lady!
My favourite kiddy art was my mothers day card with "you make my heart big" on it with a heart drawing. How does a self respecting mum not get teary with that one!

  13. Oooh....I love this sort of thing. My girl constantly showers me with gifts - necklaces that have a special paper basket for carrying thread, brooches made of cardboard, hats made from just abut anything.... but her main talent is for creating design challenges for ME to complete!!

  14. Oh wow, what a fabulous looking book!

My favourite piece of little people art came from my half sister when she was five. It is a bright blue piece of paper with a small squiggly line of colourful glitter glue dots in the middle... when I asked her if it was a caterpillar she looked at me like I was dim and said 'it's a rainbow'. I still treasure my rainbow caterpillar!

  15. OH wow! That book looks fantastic! My little fella (age 5) is always sketching strange looking things and insisting I turn it into something sewn for him - I think he thinks I can do anything on my sewing machine!
My favourite piece of his art was actually for my husband for Father's Day, it was a drawing of himself, my husband and our dog - precious :-)

  16. I'm a follower :)

Funny coincidence actually- I have been clearing out all of my old papers and I actually have a picture sitting next to me on the sofa because I'm wondering what to do with it. My little cousin visited me in my new flat at the start of my PhD and she had drawn me a special housewarming picture (completely unprompted) with lots of little stick people in different colours...one with a sad face because apparently he was my dad and he was sad because he wasn't near me (I had to live away from my family for my studies). Nicest housewarming gift I've ever received :)

  17. What a cool book, while i love sewing I am not so sure how to share it with my three little daughters. The eldest loves to draw and i have a mountain of her pictures....but my favourite is the clay nest she made for easter first bit of 3d art!

  19. Hiya! I am a follower...
    Thanks for another great giveaway!
My middle child, 4 year old boy, is my busy little creative one, who presents me with something new everyday! Mostly he likes to draw and paint, but his favourite thing to make me is pictures of love hearts, he is the sweetest little person!

  20. Wow, what an amazing book. I'm a student teacher who loves art so would really love this book. One of my fave gifts is from my daughter, a beautiful rainbow picture she drew in oil pastels on black cardboard. it is so vibrant and I framed it in a white frame. Looks gorgeous.

  21. What a great looking book. We are drowning in art work here and there is guilt each time something gets thrown in the bin, as you just can't keep them all. Ideas to make things special (like that gorgeous little fairy that Busy made!) would be just perfect!
I have been a follower for a long time... sorry that I rarely comment - I do read though :)

  22. I love Busy's fairy (and her sticky-out tongue!). I loved this year's mothers day card - she drew me a torch! (I'd just replaced her broken torch, and she was pretty chuffed about it)
PS It was really great meeting you, Cath!

  23. For mothers day on completely her own whim my little one made me an amazing pillow from felt scraps, paper and sticky tape. She made it so I could be more comfortable and sleep better. I was hugely impressed. It is definitely my most favourite possession.

  24. While moving house and my business has taken priority the last 6 months and now my BAS and 6 months of data entry is unfortnately top of my list, I can SMELL my sewing machine getting a work out in the not too distant future! My daughter and I have loads of fun sewing and cooking and stuff together, today in Dymocks she bought a book to me 'Sewing School', found it herself in the craft section (which she also managed to find herself too!). Made me feel guilty! My favourite bit of her work so far is my bead bookmark closely followed by her clay fish dish she made at school. Sculpted, designed, painted and decorate all on her own. She's only 5 and I can't wait to see what she is going to create in years to come.

  27. I love the commentary that goes along with the 'árt'. I have a 2 year old, and I get him to describe what he is drawing. Trains, planes, people. They all look the same, but they mean so much to him!

  28. Recently my baby (ten but still my baby) came home with a covered box that he painted at school he was very eager to give it to me and insisted I read the poem...
This is a very special gift
    That you never can see.
The reason it's so special is
It's just for you from me.
    Whenever you are lonely
    Or are ever feeling blue
You only have to hold this gift
    And know I'm hugging you.
    You never can unwrap it
    Please leave the ribbon tied
Just hold the box close to your heart
    It's filled with love inside.

I know it's kinda corney and every mum got one but he was so earnest and really ment it. Very special indeed.
