My Creative Space

You know when one day you notice something and think how could I have not noticed this because it just looks to be in such a state of disrepair? I "noticed" the state of Zac's bed the other day and immediately had to do something about it. (Not before starting a mini revolution at spotlight when I had to wait for 15minutes to get fabric cut. Busy had woken up that morning and decided she was going to be a dog all day ( insert large sigh here) so she was on all fours, she insisted on crawling around spotlight and every shop we went into that day. I just let her and call her "little puppy" - her preferred name and feed her "treats" - which involves breaking all her food into tiny peices ...*sigh*  ... so she kept getting told " hop up there are pins everywhere you might crawl on one " to which I replied under my breath- "if you would just serve us then we could go and you could vacuum up all these pins you all keep talking about," so the women in the queue either side of me and I all complained to management about  the lack of staff- and having to wait so long to get served everytime you go in there -even though I know this will do nothing it made me feel better for a moment...)Anyway ... "little doggy" and I found this fabric and yesterday I made this:
Man, that dog of mine is handsome isn't he? (All be it slightly manic and a right pain in the backside when he chases cars up our driveway and visitors get nervous they will hit him and they can't stop because if you loose momentum- well good luck you will be walking up...I have just noticed he has a grey moustache!!! )
Then I saw this embroidery pattern by the very clever pepperstitches  and I knew I had to do it immediately.  We had a VW when I was growing up and we loved it. It was my Dads car and I remember sitting in the tiny compartment behind the back seat - 1970's style road safety- with my sister. We all cried when it was stolen one night, then breathed a sigh of releif when it was returned safely the next day... it was also a great warning when Dad was about to get home when we were home alone after school - and bust us doing whatever we shouldn't be doing- just harmless stuff like swinging around on the hills hoist.
The fabulous Tinniegirl sent me this gorgeous patterned linen and I think I am going to make a little cushion out of it... maybe... still not sure...any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  3. Ah yes, I'm very familiar with the 'child crawling on all fours' outings, mine is usually a cat! He's actually crawling down the stairs this minute, let's hope he doesn't go head over... Love your dog bed & that embroidery is great!

  4. The very thought of standing in line at the Spotlight cutting counter with one or more children makes me break into a cold, cold sweat!

I love your embroidery. I must investigate, as Mr HB is a huge beetle fan.

  5. Both my children believe themselves to be dogs most days - no matter where we are. I'm fine with it all but do draw the line at shitting on the grass! The little one takes the role so seriously that she eats cat biscuits out of the cat bowl like a dog... I've told her that the biscuits are for cats but she thinks dogs would like them too. Ohwell.
Loving your VW - 100% ace indeedy.

  6. Crikey! Pins all over the floor at your Spotlight?! I'd be complaining. And then I'd probably buy something. :D

LOVE the Vee-Dub embroidery. We had one as kids too. It was pink, and I still remember how it smelt. I reckon you should make a little photo album cover out of it and put photos from your childhood inside?

  7. heheee, what, & that's not normal spotlight behaviour!!??
we act like that most of the time and sigh when well meaning sales people "worry" about them on the floor.
super cute dog mat & dog!
loving the look of that embroidery ♥

  10. Love your doggy bed! Zac looks mighty pleased with himself! And what with these kids we're raising hey, mine insisted on being a dog for about 3 years!!! It drove us mental in the end! I think a tote would look nice with the linen and embroidery, maybe matched with a plain linen as well??

  12. Good lord, woman, is there nothing you can't do well? The people in my house don't have cushions as nice as Zack's, and your VW embroidery has rendered me actually speechless!

  17. What a lovely place to flop down after chasing yet another car in the driveway. (for Zac, not for you obviously)

  18. Don't they drive you mad sometimes? The Spotlight salespeople, not the kids (although day long puppy pretending has been known to drive me completely insane). Poor things. It's not their fault. If only the store would employ more staff or even better, get a decent online shop so we can order what we want and just go in and pick it up, all cut and ready to go. Ah... wouldn't that be great!

  19. Would you like me to lend you my Spotlight Voodoo Doll Pincushion too? I can't tell you how therapeutic it is to stand at a Spotlight counter, stabbing pins...you walk out a zen woman and 'assistants' are so freaked out they serve you in never-before-seen haste.

  21. Te He, loved the Bug story. My mum had one for years and years and then it was passed on to me until it became impractical and had to be sold. Reading about sitting on the bench in the back - you took me right back there to the waffle textured vinyl... no rear seatbelts - ye gods perish the thought! One inertia reel belt in the front for the driver and a fixed belt for the passenger... freeeeeeezing in winter and boiiiiiiiling in summer... and the sound - there's nothing quite like it. I used it as an advance warning signal too!!! Giggle!
