Do you ever fantasy decorate? I saw this named for the first time a little while ago in a magazine and was happy to hear it actually had a name. I have been decorating Busys bedroom in my head for about 2 years, all those nights laying there trying not to go quietly insane / get the shits, I laid in her room dreaming of how I wanted it to look. I do love interiors/ homewares type mags and buy far too many of them than is normal so I had a gazillion ideas. I have always loved decorating our house, I see it as a way of expressing myself, the whole house is My Creative Space ( the kitchen is Chefs though naturally) and I have a pretty patient husband who understands my need to speak often of what we could do to the house... over the years he has learned to zone out I am sure, and to just nod in agreement knowing that I will change my mind at least 100 times... you should see the places I have been ( mentally) deciding on chairs for the dining room table.... but for a long time I was on a mission to find a double loft bed for Busys room. She is in a double bed because we had one and has slept in it on the floor since she was a baby, she will be a giant ( already is) like her parents- so we didn't see the point in putting her in a single bed, however, they take up a lot of space and her room is not huge. Could I find a double loft bed that wasn't revolting? Nope. So I talked to a builder friend about what I wanted and this is what he came up with:
Isn't it just the most beautiful thing ever?! I am so thrilled with how it has turned out. Its about 120cm off the ground with the idea being that as she gets older we will move it higher up the wall. We have practiced going up and down that ladder a lot. She loves it , and I get to sleep in it to sometimes( when I am "summoned" in the middle of the night). So now this Creative Space is almost done what next? Hmmmmmmmmm....now about that treehouse.... (I can hear Chef running and screaming)
for more Creative Spaces pop over to Kirstys and see what everyone else has been up too.
i just love it! A very cool bed indeed.
ReplyDeleteOh wooooow!
ReplyDeleteThat is just perfect, and to have the option of moving it up later on too! Brilliant!

ReplyDeleteThat's the bed that little kiddies dreams are made of!
ReplyDeleteI have the same constant decorating/furniture moving/painting conversations going on in my head all the time. I keep a notebook at hand on my bedside table to sketch down floor plans... sad but true!
It looks wonderful! And it's so practical too, very nice:)
ReplyDeleteI would have killed for a room as cool as that as a kid. I am very jealous.
ReplyDeletean adventure playground/bedroom. Awesome.
ReplyDeletelooks fantastic & great to have it up high to utilise all that space!

it can move up the wall as she gets older?...how on earth can it do that?!
I like the idea of kids stuff being adaptable as they get older, in style as well as practically - you have indeed nailed it!
So awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for exactly that sort of thing for my son!!
Inspired.
can i say anything that hasn't been said! incredible, amazing, so much fun, just fantabulous!
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to "fantasy decorating!" It's rather a constant with me.
ReplyDeleteeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhh. It's beautiful. A thing of dreams!
ReplyDeleteBusy won't realise just how luck she is until she's reminiscing upon her amazing childhood.
What an extraordairy bed and what a lucky little girl! (ps my now 6 year old was just like yours... wouldn't go to sleep on her own. She just grew out of it after a while. We did buy her some special flower fairy-lights which she still has on every night to go to sleep with so that might have been the trigger for her. Hope the sleep thing resolves itself soon!)
ReplyDeletewow that's amazing!!!! My little miss (who beleives she really is a princess) would go sick for it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful bed -- makes me want to grab a catnap right now...
ReplyDeleteWow! Fantastic stuff. Great hidey potential in the bottom bit too...
ReplyDeleteTo say oh my god I love it - is not nearly enough. What a man! I would have lofts in every room in the house I think, imagine how fun it could be eating dinner on one = my mind is spinning.
ReplyDeletelooks like a castle for princess busy. love it
