Anglicare - lets play nice!

pic
Thought I might ruffle a few feathers today,  by saying loudly how disappointed I am by Anglicares opposition to same sex couples adopting foster kids in NSW. C'mon Mr Kell! Get with the now! It is 2010! Same sex couples have been providing foster care for years and  Anglicare has allowed single gay and lesbian individuals to foster. So what is the problem? Mr Kell states: ''a cautious approach is required where the decision is irreversible''. How offensive is that? Talk about double standards.

This really angers me immensely! I see and hear the horror stories from now adult children who were put into one foster home after another the next one more horrific than the last, the countless moves and disruption, I have had grown men in tears over they way they were treated by this system as children and I find any opposition to children being placed in a loving home permanently just down right mean. So what if the parents are gay? Who cares? If they love the child does it matter? Of course not.

Mr Kell attempts to explain his flawed argument and outright discrimination here

  2. I could not agree with you more. The best thing you can do for a child is provide a loving, stable environment for them to grow up in. Families take so many different forms these days, who cares what form it is, as long as they love their children unconditionally. Anyone who so desperately wants a child should have the opportunity to be a parent, gay or not gay! Being a parent is the best thing in the world, why should it be reserved to heterosexuals. There! Geez, do you think I have an opinion on this?!

  4. Wow...I had no idea! That is really disappointing! I find it so sad that children are denied a chance to live in a loving place that they can call home :(

  5. Well said. Such a silly topic when there are many many more to discuss that are of far more importance. Who cares if a loved child has two Mum's or Dad's! Move on.

  6. I completely agree, it is 2010 after all. It really doesn't matter if the family is not typically conventional.........not many families are these days anyway.

  9. AGREED! I wrote a letter tyo Clover Moore in support of this Bill - It is so often the anti that writes letters to government, Its good to let gvrnmt know when you support something too.
Sydney Anglicanism is just ridiculous to be honest - headed by Ultra right wing Peter Jensen, nothing progressive will get done. Im willing to bet Mr Kell's job is under threat by Mr Jensen if he does support such a bill to be honest.

  10. I don't care about the sexual orientation, or lack of it, the sex of the person or lack of, as long as that person can provide emotionally and financially for the person they want to adopt, nothing else should matter. There are so many people that want to give a loving home to an orphan that they should be allowed to and there are so many kids of all ages that need help.

  11. I am so sick and tired of this gay-bashing crap. A good home is a good home -- period. And every child deserves a good home. Great post Cath.

  12. Sooooo much better to have two same sex parents who love you than no parents at all. What a silly little man.

  13. I so agree with you, if a child is loved and looked after in the correct manner, who cares who is doing the loving or caring. Too much judgement happening here from very blinkered people. My little thoughts anyway.

  14. I'm fed up with this clap trap too ... I was glad to hear same sex marriage is one of the concessions the independent for Melbourne got out of the ALP so hopefully this is the first step in changing things for the better.

  15. Amazing. My friends, have permanent care of two boys through Anglicare in Vic, and yes they are a same sex couple and have foster cared for several years. Astounding for NSW
