My Creative Space: de- clutter

This is Busy's room. This section of it drives me insane. This is all of  her "treasure." I strongly resist the urge to call it rubbish because not all of it is, as you can see... Often the "treasure"  finds its way next to our bed on the side table. Little bits of " treasure" are deposited around the house on a regular basis and then kind of hidden by me just in case she asks about them and if a few days go by and she has not asked about it - I bin it. Heaven help us if we even suggest throwing anything out. The little bower bird is a hoarder- just like her dear old Dad. It may surprise many of you to know I am a chucker.*  So this hoarding causes me a lot of emotional pain.

Being solution focused I decided to make her a bag to keep everything in... well rather embroider on a bag that was part of my Feeling Stitchy prize ... hopefully she will like the idea of keeping all her "treasure"  in the bag... problem was after almost tearing the house apart to find my erasable marker - to no avail - but really not wanting to crochet the blanket anymore and really wanting to do something stitchy I decided to do it without the marker- for maximus wonkiness - just stitched straight onto the fabric! So here is the reason WHY you shouldn't do this
However embracing the OFMK (Only for my kid)  principal I soldiered on and decided to finish it and as I was packing everything away I found the bloody erasable marker.....
* not always throw in the bin, often give away or give to second hand shop...
For some non wonky Creative Spaces pop over to Kirsty's  and tell me - are you a hoarder  a chucker- I bet a lot of you are hoarders out there!! Am I alone ?
AND today is the last day to enter my birthday piggy giveaway...

  1. I think I may be a hoarder - but I need to embrace my inner chucker. It's a daily battle. Am thinking I may need to set a goal...

  3. The bag has a certain wonky charm to it though. I like it.

I hoard and hoard. Then go on a random chucking spree and end up giving away things I later wish I hadn't. Don't get me started on the vintage salt and pepper shakers collection that went in "The Great Chucking Spree of 1997". That was a bad one!

  4. I am a hoarder, but my inner chucker is coming out of the closet!

(don't worry, my son is exactly the same, i have to sneakily chuck stuff out, otherwise he gets VERY stressed! but i also have to do it little bits at a time, so's he won't notice!
an old lolly wrapper, screws, shards of ANYTHING, he finds and keeps EVERYTHING!!)

  5. a REALLY bad hoarder...and I think it's rubbing off on our girls...Little miss A pulls off the top of a yogurt today and says...can I save this and use it as a bed for one of my toys?
    NO!!!!!!!
I couldn't believe it...I guess I should look at it in a good way though that they enjoy recycling.
    lol.
    Have a great week.

I think your bag is awfully sweet!

  8. I don’t think there is anything wonky about the bag, I think it is delightful and a perfectly whimsical place to keep treasure.

I am a hoarder, I long to be a chucker, but if something could be useful one day (especially in the studio) I just can’t bear to part with it. Hopefully the transition to the new house early next year will see me part with lots of stuff and start with a clean slate.

  9. Oh Cath, my whole flat currently looks like that pile of treasure! Can you please embroider me a bag of about, oh, 70sqm and write the same thing on it? I'd be ever so grateful.

    Perfect job, I say.

  11. I am very sad to say. That I am a hoarder. Much to my husbands disgust. My children are also hoarders. I would love to be a chucker, but I just cannot bring myself to throw anything out. I also somehow manage to end up with the things other people don't want. Go Figure :-)

my boys are the same ~ whenever some packaging comes with something, you can see them eyeing it off, and scrap paper with little words and scribbles, i find it everywhere!

  16. I'm a closet hoarder, I'm good at stashing it away and hiding it from hubby...laughs...then by the time I find my treasures again, it's almost like Christmas! I have the whole spectrum in my boys, one's a mad hoarder, one has a room that looks almost sterile and the middle child has masses of treasure but hides it like his Mum! Loving the bag, looks like a brilliant idea to store lots of treasure...surely one isn't enough though?

  17. My partner is a hoarder too. I like space more than I like stuff. My mr 3. leaves treasure all around our place too... and now his younger sister is taking up the cause too. It is totally messing up my mind... the endless stuff around the house isn't so bad... but when it creeps into MY room I go a bit crazy!
Love love love your stitching - great job. Not using the marker has meant that the text is child-like and full of whimsy. 100% perfect for this project.

  19. I'm without doubt a hoarder! I just never know whether I will regret throwing something out.

This is such a sweet post, my three year old has treasure too, I find it in his pockets all the time, a ring pull, a shiny stone, a bit of broken necklace, always string. Kids are so cute and funny <3

  20. I'm 100% chunker! Some members of my family are hoarders and since we have a fairly large house, a lot of their stuff has been stored in my attic. I want to badly to complain, but I just get scolded and end up feeling bad if I do complain...

Goodwill has gotten many boxes from me. Soon I'm doing a yardsale to get rid of some things. I don't have a lot but it will be fun!

    P.S. GREAT bad...I love the wonkiness :)

  21. What a great idea to create a treasure bag for all those 3yo treasures! And I like your wonky stitching - makes it unique! I am more hoarder than chucker. I can't bear to part with things I love, but if I have something that I don't love and only keeping cos it might come in useful one day then I am a chucker. Problem is I love a lot of stuff and as a result our house is bursting at the seams! And as I read back on that I think my partner would laugh and so no I am a hoarder!

  22. I am a hoarder. I scare myself sometimes That I will end up a little old lady in a house that you have to walk down the coridor of side ways.
Love, love, love that treasure bag.

  24. Hoarder. Sadly. I'd like to be a chucker, but can't get past the 'maybe one day' syndrome!

    Lovely bag :-)
